Gail Eubanks Johnston, born September 4, 1941, went home to God on Thursday, August 4, 2011 from Troy Regional Medical Center after a prolonged battle with cancer. Gail was born in Aiken, South Carolina, the second daughter of Harold and Emmie Ruth Carswell Eubanks. She lived her early childhood in the area of the Savannah River Plant, but was displaced when the area was taken by the Atomic Energy Commission. Thereafter, her childhood was spent in Jackson, South Carolina. Although she was raised in the Baptist Church, she was Married to Thomas Johnston, her husband of forty years in the Brundidge United Methodist Church on April 17, 1971 and immediately joined the United Methodist Church. Gail and Thomas have three children: John Thomas Johnston, 39, of Monroeville, James Harold Johnston, 35, of Birmingham, and Joyce Annette Johnston, 33, of Pelham. Gail was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Johnston, children, three grandchildren, Faith, Grace and Luke Johnston, daughter-in-law, Carol Griggers Johnston, all of Monroeville, a sister, Joyce Eubanks Creamer (Hyman), and two nephews, Chip and Kevin Creamer, all of Aiken County, South Carolina. Funeral Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Troy at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, August 7, 2011, Rev. David McVay officiating, with visitation at 3:00 p.m. at the Church. Interment will be at Green Hills Cemetery Mausoleum, Skeen Funeral Home of Troy directing.
