Obituary for Carol Joane Grant (Callin)

Ms. Carol Joane Callin Grant,72, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and teacher was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 18, 2017 after a brief illness.

She was proceeded in death by her parents Elvin Callin and Ernestine H. Callin of Troy, Alabama. She is survived by her daughter Dana Stephens (Kevin) and son Michael Grant (Sharon). Grandchildren Miranda Smith (Josh), Mason Schmacker, CK Stephens, Haley Grant, Ty Grant. Great-grandchildren Lauren Smith and Luke Smith. A sister Carla Callin Watson (Michael) and brother Gary Elvin Callin (Judy). Nephews Gary Elvin Callin Jr. and Jason Paul Callin (Amy).

Dedication to teaching and unwavering Catholic faith provided a satisfying career of 37 years which began at Our Lady Queen of Mercy School and transferred to Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School. During these years her students learned and developed their talents in art and history, but the most valuable accomplishment given to her students was the ability to be open to them, someone they could trust, and a true mentor. The true meaning of these relationships were heartfelt to the students as well as to Ms. Grant. Spanning the years, Ms. Grant has grown students who she still was in contact with locally and some around the globe. Her home is full of memories from every year she taught, she felt blessed by students as well as her faculty peers.

Funeral services will be held at Our Lady Queen of Mercy Church Thursday, September 21, 2017. Visitation will be at 11:00 a.m. followed by a Catholic Mass at 12:00 p.m. Interment Green Hill Memorial Gardens in Troy, Alabama.
