Obituary for William Mathew "Bill" Meredith

Mr. William Mathew “Bill” Meredith, age 88, of Monticello, Alabama, passed away Thursday, October 1, 2020, at Southern Springs Healthcare Facility in Union Springs, Alabama. The funeral will be held at Skeen Funeral Home Saturday, October 3, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jim Powell officiating. Burial will follow at Sandfield Cemetery with Skeen Funeral Home of Troy directing. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Bill was born January 10, 1932, to the late Dewey and Hazel Meredith of Monticello, Alabama. He was a devoted family man who is survived by his wife of 67 years, Irene Meredith, a son Michael Meredith (Rachel), and a daughter Pam Sanders (David). Bill is survived by his eight grandchildren: Jeremy Griffin of Ohio, Meredith Griffin of Georgia, Levi Sanders of Alabama, Jacob Sanders (Kayla) of Alabama, Maggie Meredith of Alabama, Kathyn Caflin (Garrett) of Hawaii, Will Meredith of Alabama, and John Mathew Meredith of Alabama. His great-grandchildren include Sawyer Sanders, Kinsley Pinkard, and River Sanders. He is also survived by his sisters Jane Sterns and Edna Jean Segrest, both of Alabama. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Gloria Griffin, and siblings: Robert Meredith, Reynolds “Nig” Meredith, Ben Meredith, Charles Meredith, and Ruby Powell. Bill Meredith lived a long and eventful life filled with family and friends. He never met a stranger and loved nothing more than shooting the breeze over a long afternoon. He loved farming, raising livestock, and fishing whenever he had th chance. Whatever happened in life, he was always happiest with his family. From beginning to end, Bill lived his life with everyday serving as a new opportunity to accomplish something, big or small. He was a testament to going forth into the world, no matter what, and living each day. He will be missed by all who knew him.
