Obituary for James H "Jimmy" Smith

Mr. James H. "Jimmy" Smith a resident of Coffee County, AL passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.. He was 78. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Skeen Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Mallone Chandler officiating and eulogy given by Remonia Smith. Burial will follow in Center Ridge Methodist Church Cemetery with Military Honors, Skeen Funeral Home of Troy directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until time of service. Mr. Smith was born February 15, 1943. Throughout his life he held many roles, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, He loved traveling and spent many an hour behind the wheel whether it be driving an 18 wheeler or traveling singing gospel music. Mr. Smith inspired the love of music, hard work and family ethics in all who knew him. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army, 1st Calvary Division and served in Viet Nam. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover and Willie Smith; siblings, Homer Smith, Herman Smith (Mary Jane), Betty Helton (Will), Sara Moorman (Ernest); grandson, Rance Aaron Barnes; son-in-law, Rex Rolan Barnes; nephews, Ronnie Smith and Mark Moorman; mother-in-law, Iloise Layton Ellise; brother-in-law, Richard Layton; sister-in-law, Rachel Layton Lock; special cousin, Lloyd Senn; and great nephew, Ronnie Benton Smith. Mr. Smith is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Remonia Smith; daughter, Rhonda Barnes; grandson, Rustin Barnes (Jasmine); great granddaughters, Addie Barnes and Ever-Kay Barnes; great grandson, Rolan Barnes (on the way); honorary grandchildren, Wrangler Campbell and Makayla Pinkerton (Michael); niece, Gina Dains (Mike); nephew, Roger Helton (Susan); great nieces, Ashley Dains, Brittney Casey (Kyle), Callie Helton and Tara Smith (Matt), great nephew, Wes Helton; 5 great-great nieces and nephews; 1 great-great-great niece and numerous cousins. Serving as pallbearers will be Rustin Barnes, Donnie Johnson, Mike Dains, Dan Zapata, Darryal Senn and Wrangler Campbell. Honorary pallbearers are Preston Senn, Gene Fortune, David Allen, Paul Adkison, Ricky Layton, Ronnie Layton, Kyle Casey, Cowboy Campbell, Dewayne Senn, Danny Senn, James Tribe.
