Irene was born February 14, 1938, to the late Henry Gillie Golden and Mary Elizabeth Williams Golden in Pike County, Alabama. She was a woman of unshakeable love, commitment, and loyalty to her family. Irene was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, William Mathew “Bill” Meredith, her daughter Gloria Griffin, her ten siblings: Ruby ‘Rube’ Golden (Geraldine), Julie Renfroe (J. D.), Carlos Golden (Louise), Jim Golden (Ethel), Andrew Golden (Jo Ann), Alma Williams (Leonard ‘Cakie’), Leonard Golden, Jewel Sanders (Roy), Conley Golden (Hazel), and Mabel Courtney (Wilson); several nieces, and several nephews. She is survived by her son, Michael Meredith (Rachel); her daughter, Pam Sanders (David); her eight grandchildren: Jeremy Griffin of Ohio, Meredith Griffin (Greg Atwell) of Georgia, Levi Sanders (partner Teri Stokes), Jacob Sanders (Kayla), Maggie Meredith, Kathyn Claflin (Garrett), Will Meredith, and John Matthew Meredith, all currently of Alabama; her four great-grandchildren: Sawyer Sanders, Kinsley Pinkard, River Sanders, and Hazel Griffin Atwell; a son-in-law Titus Griffin (Inez). Serving as pallbearers will be Mrs. Irene Meredith’s grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. Irene Meredith embodied an uncommon loyalty and dedication to all of those she loved. She was an avid reader, a keen fisherwoman, and a cherished friend. Irene enjoyed cooking especially Sunday lunch for her family and rarely missed a week. She kept all of her grandchildren at one time or another; moreover, the lives of her grandchildren have all been made better by her patience, love, and food! Irene was, undoubtedly, the matriarch of her family – always there, always bringing everyone together. Sundays will not be the same without her.
